So it is not big news that you find it annoying and difficult
to live in a house that is super hot, sweaty, and moist, well there are a few
factors behind this difficulty, this factors that are both natural and
artificial, natural factors which are obviously created under the climatic conditions
of the area, your house is located in and also artificial factors otherwise
known as man made effects which are as a result of human influence whether by
the Architect or by the resident, you that is. Now before we take a look at
this factor, we have to briefly look at the definitions of a few key words;
INLET AND
OUTLET: well an inlet as the name implies is a channel or opening
particular designed or positioned to take in air from the outside into the
building, in areas having mostly hot weather conditions, it is usually positioned
where there is the most air pressure, while an outlet is also a channel or
opening designed or positioned to expel or take out air from inside the
building outside, it is usually positioned where there is the least air
pressure from the outside and the most air pressure from the inside.
TIME LAG: a time lag
in the context of structure or building design is the time taken for the
temperature outside the building to influence the temperature inside the
building.
In most cases though when your house is readily hot, especially
before you even move in, it is as a result of the distorted understanding of
inlets, outlets and the time lags by either the Architect or the builder.
With all this in view, let us briefly then look at the causes
of the heat inside you home;
1- Windows and Openings; this is
the first and major cause of heat, either your house does not have enough
windows and openings or there are no or well positioned inlets or outlets, or
you have the wrong type of windows or the windows or opening are not big enough.
·
Number; the
number of windows and openings matter a lot, the more the number the better for
you unless you live in a desert zone or semi desert zone where it is so hot that
an extended number of windows and openings will not be of any help but in fact
be worse for you.
·
Size; the influence
of the size of windows and openings is similar to the size, the large the
windows the better for you, like wise unless you live in a desert zone or semi
desert zone.
·
Inlets
and Outlets; the positions of these two types of openings
matter a lot, if they are wrongly positioned, it will be evident in the
temperature of the house, also if one or both do not exist in the design, it
will also tell on the temperature.
·
Type of Windows and Openings; the
particular type of window you have also plays a role, some windows which we
believe are aesthetically pleasing have an adverse effect on our home, causing
increased heat on the inside of our homes, an example is a lot of people not
knowing that the louvered window although less beautiful is better than the sliding
window.
2- Time lag of Materials; the
time lag of a building material is also important in this short study, the
lighter the material used in building, the lesser the time lag meaning if the
sun is up in the morning, one starts to feel it on the inside within 20 minutes
if a light material is used without proper insulation.
3- Heavy Interior Design; this is
usually caused by the resident that is you, your heavy curtains, heavy
partitions and furniture at times cause heat within the home.
4- Climatic Conditions; this is
by far the most common in recent times, just because people see a particular
type of house in a part of the world, they then try to replicate the design
without proper consideration to the weather and climate of the region,
therefore most of this buildings are either very heated up easily, or always
extremely cold incases.
Am sure by now you can already decide what is causing the heat
in your own home from all the factors that have been discussed, so you ask what
are the solutions to this heat problem? Well;
·
Firstly you can try looking at what you can do
about the windows and openings, can you try getting them bigger or increase the
number? Or change the type of windows you have currently? Or if you see your
inlets and outlets have been blocked by your furniture or landscape? Well you
can try clearing the air routes to get some free air flow within your house.
·
Secondly you can try redoing your interior, using
very light materials, change your curtains, move some furniture around that you
feel might be emitting heat, break down some unnecessary partitions that you
feel is blocking the free flow of air from the inlet to the outlet.
·
Thirdly you could as well redesign the entire
building, email me for more information on builtadvice@gmail.com
·
And finally you can settle for what everyone else
settles for, which is a good air conditioning system, it might cost you a lot and
might have negative effects on your ecosystem but so far it is the most
effective and easy to acquire, the rest might require some professional help,
send me an email for more on that.
In Conclusion,
You have just seen a brief summary of what can and is causing
all the heat in your home, no matter how little you have there is always a
place where they sell your size, so try you best to get a professional help, For
